Coughing and New Tooth

Well we had a rough night last night.  About midnight last night Olivia started coughing.  She has been pretty congested this past week but no fever and it was clear mucous...so no real infection.  She has been coughing off and on and I could tell it moved to her chest.  Well we were up about 2 hours last night with coughing.  I fell asleep with her a bit in the glider and then laid her down.  Then she started coughing and Brendon took a turn with her.  Then she didn't cough again until she woke up.  I decided then that I was going to call the doctor.  They do Saturday office hours from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. I got in for 9:30 which was great because when I called we were still in our jammies.  We had to quick get dressed!

Of course when you are in a hurry you need gas in your car! I pulled in to the first gas station closest to our house and it said I had 1/4 of a tank.  Well something was wrong with the gas pump and it was pumping as slow as molasses.  It was so slow nothing even came out.  I stopped at $0.42 because I didn't have time to mess around.  When I started my truck back up the gas gauge went to E!!! I prayed and prayed all the way to the next closest gas station.  We made it and filled up much quicker.

We made it to the doctor with about a minute to spare.  When we pulled in the parking lot there was a lady eating in her car and she had an enormous dog in the back seat.  Olivia saw the dog and said, "Deer!" I told her that it was big like a deer but it was a dog.  At least something funny happened.

We sat in the room for a bit but I was prepared.  I brought books, snacks, coloring books, and crayons.  We both we pretty entertained for a bit.  The doctor checked her out.  Her left lung sounded good but her right one not so much.  The doctor asked if asthma runs in our family- yes- Brendon has it.  So I got worried that it was asthma.  She said she wouldn't be able to tell until we did a breathing treatment and see if that helps clear it.  We did the breathing treatment...she fussed at first and then was fine.  We got to sit in the doctor's swivel chair which Olivia was fascinated with.  she kept saying, "Doctor's chair!!!" the whole time we were there.  After the treatment they checked to see how she sounded and her oxygen levels and all was good.  So her prescription for us is to do the breathing treatments 4 times a day for 4 days, then 3 times a day for 3 days.  She also has a steroid to take also twice a day.

I had to buy the mask and tubing for the breathing machine but they let me borrow the machine for free as long as I return it by the date it is needed to be brought back.  Olivia did well with all the treatments today and the cough still sounds yucky though.  It is just a phlegmy cough.

When I brushed her teeth tonight I was surprised to find a new tooth! YAY for a bottom molar- which we thought the runny nose was caused from anyways!

Well she is having a hard time getting to sleep already.  I have been up there once and now Brendon is up there trying to get her settled. I have a feeling it is going to be a long night......

Treatment before bed...=(

Olivia's New Friend

Olivia has a new friend that she can't live without.  Her baby! Today when she woke up from her nap she saw her baby laying at the bottom of the stairs and she said, "What happened to baby?" So she picked her up and brought her to the kitchen and then told me that her baby was hungry.  I then asked, "Is Olivia hungry or is baby hungry?" She said baby was hungry.  So I told her to get her baby a snack.  Then she brought the baby over and got her snack.  She sat on the couch and and ate her snack and shared her cheesy poofs with her baby.  Then she wanted some puffs so she shared her puffs with the baby too on the recliner.  Later on after she finished her dinner she got her baby and made me hold the baby.  She then fed the baby dinner.  She fed her a potato and 2 potato chips and then baby was full.  Baby and Olivia have become quite attached.  It it so cute to see her take care of her though!

Fun things about being 19 months old

Just a regular day here.  I thought I would post some things that have come in my email about Olivia being 19 months old.  Some of things are interesting.

Here are some fun things that have come in my email about being 19 months old:

A Push-Pull Relationship

Hello Melissa,

Your child's growing independence can sometimes be at odds with her need to have you nearby all the time. Don't be surprised if she walks away from you, only to cling to you a moment later. It's all perfectly normal. Reassure her that you're there for her, and encourage her to follow you if she wants to be close.

Try, Try, and Try Again Most young children are reluctant to try new foods (there's even a name for this food neophobia). So don't be offended if your toddler wrinkles his nose and spits out your carefully prepared offering. And don't take his initial rejection as a final judgment on the dish. Research shows that offering a new food several times, a day or two apart, will likely lead to success. The effort is worth it willingness to try new foods and a varied diet lead to healthier lifelong eating habits.
Helping Little Sluggers Has your otherwise friendly toddler suddenly started hitting people? Many children this age start communicating their feelings physically, partly as a way to get your attention and partly because their language skills are still limited. To curb the behavior, make a show of noticing when she communicates without hitting. Positive rewards for acceptable behavior teach better than negative consequences for bad behavior.
Clothing-Optional? These days, your little striptease artist may take off his clothes as quickly as you can get them on. Don't despair! Children practice new skills as often as possible it's all part of their natural drive to master the world around them and become more independent. Instead of getting into battles, have your child help you dress him, even if it takes three times as long.

From Mom 365:
YOUR BABY IS 85 WEEKS OLD
Is your toddler constantly asking “What’s that?” That’s what she’s supposed to be doing! It’s helping her expand her vocabulary and increase her sense of control over her world (the more things she can name, the more independent she feels). She’s also now able to lead an adult or big sibling to another room to get something, which proves that her memory and sense of spatial relationships are still developing.
*** Olivia now likes to say What happened?

Hello from BabyCenter!
Now that your toddler can sit still for longer periods of time, reading together is more fun than ever. Asking your child to point to objects on a page is a good way to find out how much she understands, even if she can't say the words yet. Don't worry if your child doesn't say much: A vocabulary of anywhere between ten and 50 words is normal for this stage of development.  *** Olivia is now more into listening to a book!!

When I grow up...

We actually had a family lunch today.  During lunch we were talking to Olivia about our jobs.  We said that mommy was a teacher and we discussed daddy's job.  I asked Olivia what she wanted to be when she grew up and she said, "Doctor!" Brendon and I looked at each other and laughed.

Before Gymboree today I did a quick stop at Target since all the holiday stuff is coming up.  It does kind of annoy me though since Thanksgiving hasn't even happened yet! But Target has lots of light up signs and Olivia oohed and aahed over them.  Then we got to the Christmas light sections...wowie! Lots to look at there.  Then we saw the Christmas trees and I told her what it was and she repeated the word back! We looked at a few more things and then left.

When we got to Gymboree we saw them putting up the big Christmas tree up outside the mall.  I showed it to her and said, "Big Christmas tree!" She said, "Whoa!" Maybe she will remember it next week.  We saw our friends Griffin and Ethan at Gymboree and had lots of fun. We love seeing our friends there =)

These two are two peas in a pod!

My Daddy the Hunter

My daddy is so great! I love him so much.  Today my daddy woke up really early at 4 a.m.-He was so excited about his hunt he actually woke up at 3 a.m.! I was still sleeping and I let mommy sleep until 7:15 a.m. Daddy went to a quota hunt at Hard Labor Creek State Park.   He really wanted to get a deer and a hog.  He ended up getting a deer about 7:15 a.m. I was so excited for him I wore camo today!! I even said, "Daddy hunting" and "Camo."

Mommy and I went to Gymboree today since she didn't have to work today.  We had lots of fun.  I saw my friends Raegan and Violet.  Then we came home and had lunch.  Then I took a nap and when I woke up daddy was home.  He showed me pictures of his hunt.  Then we had dinner and watched lots of stuff about the election.  Daddy gave me a bath and I let him read me the rest of Conner's Big Hunt and mommy read my new favorite book The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Now off to sleep.......

XOXO
Olivia

How do I do it?

I get this question a lot.  I especially get this question a lot when bad things happen.  People tell me all the time that they could never be married to one, the job is too dangerous for their family, that they would never be able to sleep.  Well I am married to one and I am so proud of him every day.  Probably the best words to describe how I do it and what we as a family go through was best said in another blog that someone else wrote.  She took the words out of my mouth and many of the others wives and significant others.  Finally someone put it down on paper.  Finally someone understands what it is like.  Many people do not understand- even friends and family- what it is like daily.

Here is the blog that puts my thoughts into words ( I would suggest reading this first before going on)
The-Joys-and-Jitters-of-a-LEO-Wife-by-Melissa-Littles

But all in all this is not about me.  We are deeply saddened by the recent tragedy of losing two officers.  I don't think I have ever felt my heart beat so fast when the breaking news came on and we sat there in shock.  We have a friend that belongs to the air unit and just cannot imagine their loss. So please pray for the officers and their families.  These two men gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Someone shared this video on Facebook just as a tribute in general.  But next time you get upset and disgruntled at law enforcement officers offer them a thank you for saving your life.

Time Change

Oh time change...we are supposed to get an extra hour of sleep right??? Ha!!!!!! Olivia woke up at 7:00 a.m.! So we didn't gain an extra hour of sleep.  Plus we had a pretty restless night of sleep anyways due to some work related stuff we found out before bed.

Since we were up so early we made breakfast and then went to church.  Olivia was soooooooo GOOD at church!! It was one of the best times at church with her.  It was pretty eventful though.... the fire alarm went off right after the mass started.  Talk about not knowing what to do! Eventually the priest told people to leave the church and then we shortly came back in.  No fire though.  But she sat on the pew seat and read some books and ate a snack.  She even clapped at the end when people shared their celebrations.  She looked so cute too but we forgot to get her picture.

We had a pretty relaxing day.  I went and ran again.  It was a good 7 miles.  Then when I got home Brendon went and rode his bike.  Then I finished reading the newspaper while Olivia napped.

Then we ate dinner and I hid Goodnight Moon when Olivia took a bath.  She found another book that got read 3 times.  Twice by me and once by Brendon...Eric Carle's the Very Hungry Caterpillar. But she let Brendon read though!!

Olivia went a bit wild after dinner with Jake's tail...she thinks it is hilarious! Too bad Jake does not!
