It was a bit crazy getting ready for the race this year. I haven't been running as much this summer as I would have liked to. With Brendon's crazy work schedule it is hard to find a time to go in the morning when it is a tiny bit cooler, because running at in the evening isn't any better when it is 95 degrees still and the treadmill is ok at times but can be boring. I was able to go with my friends Joan and Tina again. We went to the Expo and out to dinner and then got caught in a wicked storm! The race was soooo hot this year. So I knew this year was going to be slow, but the heat made it more difficult. I just wanted to finish the race standing up and not in the medical tent.
Friday afternoon my friends Joan and Tina met at our house and we headed down to Atlanta. We stay close to the start line of the Peachtree Road Race which makes life easier. We checked in and zoomed off to the Expo. Lots of train riding and walking and finally we got back to Buckhead about 6:30ish and had some dinner. Then back to the hotel to prep for the race. It was REALLY wet. It rained...a lot. The sprinkle and rain felt good though. At mile 4 I saw the lightning and heard the thunder. Little did I know they postponed the race about 40 minutes. I noticed the color warning system flags turned to red but no one was directing us to stop running. I had a 57:26 finish time which I was pleased with. It was a nice soggy walk and wet ride back to the hotel. But it was a great run for me =)
Expo fun
Parking lot view from hotel
We missed our friend Kim...
The guy all the way on the left we met in the elevator. Little did we know he was a famous running sports newscaster and was interviewing an elite runner in the elevator (who ended up being 5th over all male in the race)
July 3rd:
Busy day...Brendon had to redo my brakes and rotors after the new tires. While he was doing this I was packing for my hotel stay for the Peachtree Road race. Then quickly fed Olivia lunch and then Brendon zoomed off to get groceries. Then the girls arrived and we got all packed up and ready to go. We went to the Expo first so Joan and Tina could get their numbers. Then we checked into the hotel and got dinner and walked around for a bit. Then it was bed time.
While at the homestead...Brendon did dinner and gymnastics with Olivia. Then they went for a swim and over to the neighbors for some fireworks!
July 4:
I am not sure if I slept much...got up at 5:45 and started getting ready for the Peachtree Road Race. It was so nice to not have to get up at 3:30 a.m.! But got ready to go...it was a cool morning about 64 degrees! It was a good run...not my best 10K (I had 58:43 on my watch but they had me clocked at 58:58)...slower by 2 minutes from last year but I ran good and had fun!
Post race lunch!
While at the homestead...Brendon and Olivia went to the parade. By the time I got home they had lunch, went swimming, and were napping...yes both of them! Then we just swam after nap and grilled kabobs. We decided to stay home since the place that usually does fireworks didn't do them this year, plus Olivia isn't a fan of the booms. So we did some sparklers in the driveway and she was fine with that and so were we!
July 5th: Today we did some house work. I pulled weeds....lots of them. I am so not a green thumb....my back, arms, and hands hurt so bad at the moment. Brendon worked on the squirrel damage... and we took a trip to Lowes. After Lowes and a quick rest I tried finishing the weeds and just gave up. Sprayed some round up and covered with mulch...of course we were short one back of mulch...that can be done another day! I will take some pictures of our repairs and gardening tomorrow!
